Rare Pokémon Trainer cards: the most wanted character SARs
Updated on 16/10/2026
The kinds of Trainer cards
| Kind | In Japanese | How it's played |
|---|---|---|
| Supporter | サポート | Only one per turn: the strongest cards, often featuring a character |
| Item | グッズ | No limit: search for cards, heal, move Energy |
| Pokémon Tool | ポケモンのどうぐ | Attached to a Pokémon to give it an effect |
| Stadium | スタジアム | Stays in play and affects both players |
Why characters are worth so much
Supporter cards show characters from the video games: Gym Leaders, rivals, professors. In SAR versions the character is at the centre of a whole scene, and the most loved (like Iono, Lillie or Carmine) become the most expensive cards of their set, sometimes more than the Pokémon ex.

What drives the price
- The character: fan favourites are worth more;
- the rarity: the SAR is worth more than the SR, which is worth more than the regular version;
- play: a Supporter heavily played in tournaments is wanted by players too;
- condition: on full arts every scratch shows, see card condition.
Gold Items
Some Items also have gold (UR) versions, such as Nest Ball or Counter Catcher. They aren't worth as much as the character SARs, but they make an elegant and affordable collection.
