Specialist shops
Card game shops are the safest place to see cards in person, but not all of them stock Japanese cards and the choice of singles is often limited. For sealed boxes they're the most relaxed choice.
Online stores
It's the most convenient way to buy singles: you can search for the exact card and compare prices. Choose sellers who ship from within the European Union (no customs), show photos of the cards and accept returns: by law, in Europe, you can withdraw from online purchases within 14 days.
Marketplaces and private sellers
On marketplaces and classified-ad apps you can find bargains, but also most of the fakes. Check reviews, ask for photos of the real card (front and back), pay with methods that protect you and be wary of prices that are too low.
Buying from Japan
Prices in Japan can be lower, but on top of the card you pay shipping, import VAT and the courier's fee, plus one or more weeks of waiting. On a single card the saving often disappears: the maths is in the guide on customs and costs from Japan.
