Pokémon 30th anniversary cards: the Japanese 30th Celebration set, cards and prices

What 30th Celebration is

For Pokémon's thirtieth birthday Japan got 30th Celebration, a special set with the code M6a. Like the sets of previous anniversaries, it isn't a normal expansion: it's a party that brings together new cards and tributes to the game's history.

The reprints of classic cards

Collectors' favourite part is the reprints: cards that bring back the artwork and design of famous cards from the early eras, with the 30th anniversary logo. The Charizard uses the design of the first Japanese set and is illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, like the original; the Lugia recalls the "Crystal" cards of the early 2000s. The set also includes Shining Celebi, Dark Tyranitar, Crobat G LV.44, Metagross δ (Delta Species) and Mew VMAX: each one recalls a different era of the game.

The new SARs

Alongside the reprints there are special illustrations (SAR) of the most loved Pokémon: two Pikachu ex by kantaro that form a single parade, Mew ex, Mewtwo ex, Gengar ex, Sylveon ex, Greninja ex, Jirachi ex.

How to recognise a 30th anniversary card

• the 30th anniversary logo on the artwork (a Pikachu with the number 30);
• the set code M6a at the bottom left, next to the number;
• the number: cards above 103 (e.g. 126/103) are the secret cards, the rarest.

The other anniversaries

Every anniversary has had its own set: for the 20th in 2016 and the 25th in 2021 celebration sets came out both in Japan and in the rest of the world, with reprints of the most famous cards. They immediately became some of the most collected sets of their time.
